Word Tracker Puzzles

Word Tracker PuzzlesWord Tracker puzzles are a fun variant on the classic wordwheel puzzle.

Whereas with a wordwheel puzzle, you simply use the letters in any order you wish, in a word tracker puzzle you may only move from letter-to-letter horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Each letter in the word tracker square cannot be used more than one time.

For instance, if you look at the cover image, you can make the word 'GRADUATED' by moving along the lines that are shown in red: you'll see how these wind around the letters in the grid, moving horizontally, vertically or diagonally on each occasion. You can also make lots of shorter words, of course - here we've highlighted 'DATE' with the blue line, and 'TUG' with the green line.

Every puzzle comes complete with three target totals: the first of these is the target score, which everyone with a good vocabulary and a little persistence will hopefully be able to reach with some effort! The next two targets are the exceed targets - these are the scores we considered a good total and a great total.

You must create words of three letters upwards. We've listed at the back of the book the words we found per grid - however we've excluded any too obscure words, so if you find any word in a dictionary that we haven't listed, then it still counts and you should included it towards your target. We've left lots of space on each page for you to record the list of words you make. And of course you can look at a puzzle for a bit and come back to it later to find more words.

Different people have different methods for solving word puzzles such as this - one method that is quite popular is to work through the letters in turn and then try and think of as many words as you can starting with that particular letter - this can often stimulate your brain to come up with some words that you haven't already seen, rather than letting your eye wander around the grid unsystematically and hoping that you'll spot some words or that they will jump out at you over time.

We hope you really enjoy the puzzles in this word tracker puzzle book - it should appeal to those who like anagram puzzles, word wheels, and our pangrams (spelling bee style puzzles) too. Happy solving!
